The City of Hopkinsville will give a cost of living adjustment to employees if the
City Council approves the budget presented by Mayor Wendell Lynch. The proposed $43.1 million budget is a $3 million increase over the current year’s budget.
Lynch is suggesting a five percent increase for employees.
He says that will be offset by the projected increase in payroll tax collection.
The city’s payroll is expected to be $26.5 million, or 62 percent, of the budgeted expenses. The
payroll tax collection is estimated at $17.9 million, or 42 percent, of the budgeted revenue.
Lynch says this budget is very conservative.
His emphasis is on putting Hopkinsville first.
He also includes engaging citizens in city government and quality of life. Lynch gave his 2022-2023 budget address Friday morning. The budget is on the May 19 Committee of the Whole agenda.
