Kentucky State Police said Friday that a Hopkinsville woman indicted for sexual abuse while employed at Trigg County High School has been arrested and that no other arrests are expected.
39-year-old Ashley Wells was served the Christian County Indictment Wednesday, booked into the Christian County Jail, and released on bond. A bond amount was not listed on the jail website.
Kentucky State Police said the investigation began in January involving allegations of sexual contact between a Trigg County Public School teacher and a student. The investigation revealed that Wells had sexual contact with a 17-year-old student in 2016 in Christian County.
Burgess also said the case has been thoroughly investigated and no additional criminal charges were expected against Wells or any other school employee.
Trigg County Superintendent of Schools Bill Thorpe confirmed last week in a statement that Wells, who began the school year as a high school teacher, was no longer employed by the school system when the indictment was handed down. Wells lives in Hopkinsville and the indictment means the offense occurred in Christian County.
First-degree sexual abuse is a Class D felony punishable by 1 to 5 years in prison. In Kentucky, there is no statute of limitations for felony charges.
