Area residents can expect to see military vehicles and equipment from the 101st Airborne Division more frequently as well as a few more artillery rumbles in the coming weeks.
The 101st Airborne Division will be traveling both on Fort Campbell and Kentucky roadways now until May 13 as part of a routine, division-wide training exercise, called Operation Lethal Eagle II.
Lt. Col. Kari McEwen, the 101st Airborne Division public affairs officer, said communities around Fort Campbell can expect to hear the sound of artillery and small arms fire, and they can expect to see helicopters flying over the area.
The majority of the traffic on public roadways will be on I-24, I-169, the Western Kentucky Parkway, and I-69 on Friday and Saturday.
Convoys of 10 to 200 military vehicles will leave Fort Campbell and travel to Greenville and Fort Knox on these days. These movements will occur during daylight hours, however, Lt. Col. McEwen said there may be temporary disruptions to road traffic.
Drivers can also expect congestion and delays at Gate 7 in Oak Grove Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. In addition, Gates 2 and 5 will be closed from Friday until May 13.
