Caldwell’s February Jobless Rate Among the Lowest in the Pennyrile

Caldwell County’s economic picture received good news this month as preliminary unemployment figures for February showed the county with the second-lowest jobless rate in the nine-county Pennyrile Region.

Numbers released by the Kentucky Center for Statistics showed Caldwell County with a 3.5-percent unemployment rate, compared to the four-percent statewide rate and the 4.7-percent rate in the Pennyrile region.

The estimates showed Caldwell County with a civilian labor force of 6,001 people in February, which is an increase of nearly 350 people from February 2020 — the month before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

There were 209 people actively seeking work in Caldwell County in February compared to 285 in the same month two years ago.

Caldwell’s February 2020 jobless rate was 5.1-percent compared to five-percent last year.

Only Todd County’s three-percent jobless rate in February was lower in the Pennyrile region than Caldwell County.
