Wednesday Storms Produce Downed Trees, Power Outages

Wednesday evening’s storms produced some wind damage, downed trees and power lines, and heavy rain as multiple tornado warnings were issued in Caldwell, Lyon, Trigg, Christian, and Muhlenberg counties.

Two severe storm systems moved through the area around 5 pm. The first tracked from Graves County to Benton and through to Princeton and Dawson Springs.

A second moved from Murray to Trigg County and into northern Christian County. The second storm prompted a tornado warning for Trigg and Christian counties. Randy Graham, the emergency manager for Christian County, said there was a report of a tornado near Crofton but no damage was located.

click to download audioThe downed pole near the Cadiz Vet Clinic knocked out power to nearly 800 people from Lakota Drive in Cadiz to near Gracey. Gilkey said there were some poles damaged in northern Christian County that caused outages there as well.

Graham said the message from his department was for people to have a way to receive weather warnings and thinks many more did Wednesday compared to December.

click to download audioWednesday’s storms dumped an additional 1.3 inches of rain in the area and pushed the rain total to nearly 4 and-a-half inches since Monday morning.

The three-day record for rainfall in Caldwell and Trigg counties was February 14-16, 1989 when both counties received nearly 10.5 inches. The three-day record in Christian County is 10.85 inches from March 1-3, 1997.
