Library Has Busy ‘Spring Break’ Planned

It might be Spring Break, but that doesn’t mean the book stacks are closed for the week.

Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library and its Executive Director DeeAnna Sova have plenty planned for families and children of all ages.

Tuesday, students will tackle “Bubbles & Chalk,” pending weather. Wednesday will serve as “Story Time” with a craft buffet geared for those aged 6 and older. Thursday will be “Nature Day,” where visitors can take in the green way while creating some art outdoors. Friday will have a focus on large, giant games for older age groups — think Legos, oversized “Connect Four” and lawn bowling — while younger children have access to “Play And Grow.”

All festivities begin at 10 AM this week, save for this upcoming Saturday — which will serve as a massive chess tournament experience for the community.

Already, Sova said scores of students are signed up for the event. And she’s encouraging anyone not signed up, but wanting to be, to do so by 9:30 Saturday morning.

This is also the perfect time to bring back those long-forgotten borrowed materials without cost, as April is “No Fines Month” in the library world.

Sova said it’s a misnomer to think fines are 25 cents with a never-ending tally to the damage. HCCPL’s fines cap at $5 maximum per item — with any extra costs assessed should the borrowed goods come back damaged.
