New Law Would Make ‘Porch Piracy’ a Felony

A bill proposed in the state senate would make the theft of packages delivered and left near the doors of homes by commercial companies a felony.

Senate Bill 23 would close a loophole in the current theft of mail statute and make the stealing of packages from a residence a felony punishable by 1 to 5 years in prison.

Keith West has more in this report from Frankfort.

The bill will head to the Senate floor for consideration and would also have to pass the house before it could go to the governor.
