Trial Date Set In Fairview Drive Murder Case Involving Juvenile

A trial date was set after a resolution wasn’t reached in the case of a juvenile charged with murder in connection to an October shooting on Fairview Drive in Hopkinsville.

16-year old Richard Rawlins Jr. is accused of fatally shooting 19-year old Alex Updegrove at least one time at a home near Nelson Drive on October 4th. He was indicted as an adult by a Christian County grand jury on November 19th.

During a pretrial conference in Christian County Circuit Court Monday morning before Judge Andrew Self, Rawlin’s public defender Munroe Graham said they were not able to reach a resolution and asked for a trial date to be set.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Boling said the mediation is set for February 11th.

Judge Self set Rawlins’ two-day trial to begin at 8:30 a.m. on June 16th.

According to Hopkinsville Police, Updegrove and Rawlins were inside a Nelson Drive home when Rawlins threatened to kill him and then shot Updegrove. Police said Rawlins then fled the area before officers arrived. Updegrove was pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County Coroner’s Office.

Rawlins was arrested by police the day after the shooting and charged with murder. he remains in state custody.
