Several Rooms Extensively Damaged In Fire At Lake Barkley State Resort Park Lodge (w/VIDEO)

A fire Saturday morning at the lodge at Lake Barkley State Resort Park in Trigg County has resulted in part of the building, including several guest rooms, being extensively damaged.

Firefighters from four departments were called just after 10 am for a report of a fire in the boiler room and when they arrived part of the building was engulfed in flames. The Trigg-Lyon, East Golden Pond, Montgomery, and Cadiz fire departments all responded to the scene.

The fire was in lodge rooms to the left side of the main lodge structure. The fire did not impact the main lodge office, rooms to the right-hand side, or the convention center.

The News Edge’s John Godsey spoke with Trigg County Emergency Management Director David Bryant on the scene.

There were no reports of any injuries as a result of the fire. Bryant would tell the News Edge on the scene that none of the rooms most impacted by the fire had anyone staying in them at the time the fire broke out. He added that power had been cut to the entire lodge with no indication at the moment of when it might be restored.

Officials with the Kentucky Department of Parks issued a statement saying “the lodge at Lake Barkley State Resort Park will be closed until at least Dec. 2, 2021 due to a fire that occurred on Nov. 27.” The statement went on that “at this time, the full extent of the damage is unknown. No park guests or employees were harmed as a result of the fire. All lodge guests have been moved to Kenlake State Resort Park. Cottage and cabin guests were not impacted by the fire.”

The lodge at Lake Barkley State Resort Park has 120 rooms and four suites. Construction on the lodge began back in 1968 with the formal dedication of the facility in June 1970.
