Fernandez Announces For District 7 Magistrate Race In Christian County

A former Hopkinsville City Council member has thrown his hat into the ring of the Christian County Fiscal Court’s magistrate race for 2022.

David Fernandez announced his intent Thursday, with hopes of being elected as the District 7 representative for the county. It’s a seat currently occupied by Jerry Gilliam, who has announced his candidacy for judge-executive — a position long-held by incumbent Steve Tribble.

Fernandez is retired from the Commonwealth as a management compliance analyst, and is a military veteran and graduate of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green with a bachelor’s in business administration.

Currently serving as co-chair of the Hopkinsville Inner City REZ program and the vice-chair of the Hopkinsville Stormwater Board, Hernandez is also a board member of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Boys & Girls Club, the Salvation Army, the Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club and serves as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church.

Fernandez is a native of Davenport, Iowa and is now a 31-year resident of Hopkinsville. A member of the Democratic party, he’s married to Susan Schlei Moss Fernandez — a retiree of the Christian County Clerk’s Office.

Fernandez is the second person to announce his candidacy for the District 7 seat. Mike Walker, currently serving on the Christian County Board of Education, has also announced his intent.
