A Christian County man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Bowling Green on federal drug and firearm charges.
Acting U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett announced Wednesday that 31-year old Nigel Sanders was indicted on October 13 for possession with the intent to distribute and distribution of methamphetamine, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
According to the indictment, Sanders has multiple prior felony drug trafficking convictions and a prior felony conviction for a weapons offense.
Bennett says Sanders faces not less than 10 years and not more than life in prison for possession with the intent to distribute and distribution of meth and not more than 10 years in prison for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Sanders faces an additional 5-year consecutive term of imprisonment for possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. If convicted, a federal district court judge will determine any sentence. There is no parole in the federal system.
Bennett says Sanders is scheduled to be arraigned on the morning of November 23 at 10:00.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Leigh Ann Dycus.
The Madisonville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Arms, and Explosives investigated the case.
