If your utility bills have been piling up, help could soon be on the way.
Back in early February, the Christian County Fiscal Court approved a resolution to apply for the Community Development Block Grant for COVID Utility Assistance Program under the office of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear — hoping to receive $200,000 for public funds that could be used for delinquent payments in water, sewage, natural gas and electricity.
During Thursday’s regularly-scheduled meeting, the fiscal court — under advisement from Pennyrile Area Development District Associate Director Amy Frogue — voted to unanimously accept and sign for those funds, which Frogue said had been recently awarded.
District 7 Magistrate Jerry Gilliam asked Frogue if public delinquencies in utilities had fallen in the area since that February meeting, and Frogue noted “yes,” but that some families still needed considerable help in key areas.
Frogue added that once the signature of Judge-Executive Steve Tribble hit the pages and was processed by the Governor’s office, client processing and financial assistance could unlock within the next 30 days.
Families that qualify will be able to apply for the funds through the Pennyrile Allied Community Services, who will then defer specific payments from the $200,000 bank to the specific utility company requested.
Frogue also noted that if, for some reason, PACS officials rolled through the first $200,000 in quick fashion, there is a sincere possibility at access to more funding.
Under Beshear and the Department for Local Government, up to $38 million in utility relief was created as part of the Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus Response program.
