Christian County Reports 12 COVID-Linked Deaths

The Christian County Health Department reported six deaths Wednesday linked to the COVID-19 virus with six more deaths likely to be added when a reporting system audit is completed.

According to the health department, five of the six deaths involved unvaccinated people. A 76-year-old vaccinated male with underlying health conditions was also part of the six. The five unvaccinated deaths were males aged 62, 67, 68, and 69 and a 75-year-old female. Those five also had underlying conditions according to the health department.

in addition, an audit of the reporting system conducted by the health department and the state found six additional COVID-related deaths from 2020. Details on those deaths are pending.

Christian County’s death toll linked to COVID-19 stands at 114 which is 13th among the 120 Kentucky counties.

According to information released by Jennie Stuart Medical Center Wednesday, 103 patients were hospitalized there with COVID-19 in August. Only nine of the hospitalized were vaccinated while 94 were unvaccinated.

The hospital also said 23 of the 24 patients in the ICU were unvaccinated as were all 17 people that were placed on a ventilator.

Health department statistics show that those who have been vaccinated are 3.5 times less likely to get the virus, eight times less likely to get sick, and 25 times less likely to die from COVID-19.

The Christian County Health Department continues to provide free vaccinations on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 4:30. They offer Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson vaccines. They advise that walk-ins are welcome, and they continue to offer free testing on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-11 by appointment only.
