Officials Say Active Shooter At Fort Campbell Was False Alarm

Officials at Fort Campbell say the report of an active shooter on the Army installation Friday morning was a false alarm.

Public Affairs Director Brendalyn Player says Fort Campbell law enforcement officers responded to reports of an active shooter shortly after 10:30 a.m. and immediately cleared buildings in the vicinity and temporarily closed post gates. She says an investigation determined the noise from weapons firing was the result of a nearby weapons training simulation and there was no danger to the Fort Campbell community.

Fort Campbell Garrison Commander, Colonel Andrew Jordan says they understand everyone’s concerns and ensured the public there is no threat to the installation. He also asks the community to report anything that may be out of the ordinary, which in this instance he pointed out turned out to be noise from training. He said they would rather have someone to make a report and they exercise their resources and find nothing, than for tragedy to come to Fort Campbell.
