Hopkinsville’s Salvation Army Thrift Store Reopens Sept. 1

Closed for two months because of renovations, re-staffing and regrouping, the Salvation Army of Hopkinsville’s oft-visited Thrift Store — located at 701 South Clay Street — is set to reopen to the public at 9 a.m. Wednesday, September 1.

Filled with women’s clothing, furniture, home goods and several donated items of value, Salvation Army Lieutenant Lindsey Galabeas said the store plays a direct and integral in local missions.

On reopening day, donuts, coffee and hot dogs will be offered throughout the day, as will different sales every hour on the hour, and Galabeas noted women’s clothing — particularly shoes — has proven to be the store’s top sellers.

But the reopening also comes with different needs — donations, and shopping, among them. Galabeas said shampoo and conditioner go a long way for the mission’s goals, as do linens, laundry detergent and foodstuffs to help assist with the pantry and soup kitchen.

Perhaps the biggest mission of the Salvation Army, however, is its desire to connect people to God and the love of Christ without judgment or predisposition. And its long-running history is more than just ringing the red bells for monetary donations around Christmas.

Hopkinsville’s Salvation Army pickup also returns on September 1, meaning local citizens can make the call to have furniture and other major donations collected by appointment.
