Trigg County’s ‘Gala of Tables’ Opens 2021-22 School Year

It had been two years since the Trigg County Schools “Gala of Tables” had taken place.

That changed on Monday morning, when a sea of educators, support staff and community leaders joined for breakfast and fellowship at the campus cafeteria — opening the charge into the 2021-22 school year that begins this Wednesday morning.

For Superintendent Bill Thorpe — alongside more than 40 new hires in the schools over the last two years — it was his first time. And it was an event he simply didn’t expect.

Thorpe played emcee for the gathering, and closed with a stirring message to his staff about what it means to make a difference, regardless of the position held within the school system.

While Monday felt like the true “kick off” for Trigg County Schools with lots of familiar faces, the introduction of so much new personnel brought large cheers and applause from all of the working arms of the school system.

Thorpe noted the infusion of new blood could be a boon for the district.

James Mangels, Trigg County’s director of personnel and student services, noted there’s a great deal of excitement and anticipation for Wednesday’s start to school — and that several families in the area still have some registration details to complete for things get into full swing.

The first-ever “Gala Award” went to Laura Shelton and Laura Miller of the Horizon Youth Services Center, and Ashley Hunter and Beverly Curling of the Lighthouse Family Resource Center, for their tireless efforts over the last 18 months in providing countless hours to the students of Trigg County — particularly during a pandemic.
