Hopkinsville Traffic Stop Leads To Drug And Weapons Charges

A traffic stop for a seat belt violation in Hopkinsville landed a Clarksville man behind bars facing drug and gun charges.

Hopkinsville police report 20-year old Cameron James Arnold was driving northbound on Fort Campbell Boulevard around 5:00 Wednesday afternoon when officers noticed he and his passenger were not wearing seat belts.

Officers say as they approached the car they smelled marijuana. During a search of the vehicle, police reportedly found a small amount of loose marijuana between the seat and console along with multiple marijuana roaches in an ashtray cup, and a handgun loaded with restricted ammunition in the driver door compartment.

Arnold was taken into custody and when he arrived at the jail, police say he stated he had a concealed bag of marijuana in his groin area in an attempt to hide it from officers.

Arnold was lodged in the Christian County Jail and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia with both of those charges firearm enhanced. He was also charged with tampering with physical evidence and using restricted ammo during a felony in addition to traffic offenses.
