Following a visit in executive session to discuss his review, the Trigg County Board of Education returned “exemplary” marks for superintendent Bill Thorpe at its regularly-scheduled meeting on Thursday night.

The former director of pupil personnel for Marshall County took over for the school system on January 1, 2020, just 10 weeks before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. And in a group statement enunciated by board chair Jo Alyce Harper, Thorpe was noted for having a “collaborative style” that was “transparent” and “reassured all the district’s stakeholders.”

The submission of two separate BG-1 projects to the Kentucky Department of Education also garnered unanimous approval in a small quorum: involving a new multi-purpose athletic facility and press box in one plan, and a new roof and entry way for Trigg County Middle School in another.

Addendum for these projects could — and likely will — happen in the future, but these are starting points. The roof alone is projected at $1.05 million through Sherman Carter Barnhart of Louisville, Lexington and Paducah, and the scope of all expected new construction, repairs and additions could total north of $6 million.

Harper, Thorpe, board member Theresa Allen and board member Gayle Rufli specifically clamored about the growing momentum and excitement for a new press box — which could bring a critical lift not only to the football program, but all entities who use Perdue Field and its surroundings for events and gatherings.

Thorpe also noted that board meetings will soon move to a new location: “Area E,” or the “Flex Area” of the Trigg County Intermediate School. That change could come as early as the first week of August, right before the start of the 2021-22 academic year.
