Trigg Murder Suspect Arraigned on New Charges

A Trigg County man charged with murder was arraigned on new charges in Trigg County Circuit Court Monday before Judge C.A. Woodall.

Jonathan McCoy, whose address was listed as the Christian County Jail, entered a not guilty plea through his attorney Audrey Woosnam on charges of tampering with physical evidence, first-degree possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, making a false statement to receive benefits, display of an altered or illegal registration plate, and being a persistent felony offender.

Since December, McCoy has been lodged in the Christian County Jail after he was charged with kidnapping, murder, second-degree arson, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse in connection to the 2020 death of Ilene Barnett at her Will Jackson Road home.

State Police said the latest charges stem from an investigation five days after the murder.

In addition, McCoy is facing charges in Lyon County stemming from a 2020 case involving a stolen vehicle and arson incident near Kuttawa.

Woosnam said she was waiting for some lab reports in the case.

Judge Woodall set an October 13 court date for a status conference to determine each side’s progress in the case.
