Negotiations Continuing in Crash-Related Murder Case

Attorneys are continuing their negotiations in the traffic-related murder case of a Texas man in Land Between the Lakes last year.

Christopher Swykert appeared in Trigg County Circuit Court with his attorney Bill Deatherage Wednesday afternoon. An August 11 pretrial conference has been scheduled to give attorneys more time to discuss the case and come to a possible settlement before trial.

Swykert is out on bond but must stay in Trigg County through the rest of his court proceedings. Judge C.A. Woodall commended Swykert for his continued compliance with his release conditions.

Swykert was charged with murder and DUI after a June 2020 traffic crash on the Trace in LBL. State police said he failed to navigate a curve, ran off the road, and his vehicle struck a tree.

Swykert's passenger, 19-year-old Harry Daniel Kincaid who was stationed at Fort Campbell, was killed in the crash.
