Downtown Hopkinsville was filled with the smell of barbeque and the sounds of live music Friday during the 3rd Annual Squealin’ on the Square Barbeque Festival.

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator Toby Hudson said six teams battled it out at Founders Square for cash and prizes.

Each team included one head chef and up to four assistants. The teams cooked barbeque throughout the day to get ready for judges to sample portions from each group that competed in three categories: chicken, ribs, and pork chops.

The big winner of the day was Kinfolk Catering who racked up $500 cash and two Squealin’ trophies after placing first in the chicken and ribs categories, and the Hopkinsville Fire Department walked away with the first-place trophy and $250 cash in the chops category.

Hudson also thanked the sponsors of the event.

Following the barbeque contest, Xtraodinary Gentlemen filled downtown with their special groove of music until 10:00.
