Trigg Sheriff’s Investigation Completed in Rockcastle Officer-Involved Shooting

The Trigg County Sheriff’s Office has completed its internal investigation into last month’s officer-involved shooting in Rockcastle.

Members of the sheriff’s department went to a home on Gold Dust Trail on May 13 to serve an arrest warrant. Police said the man picked up a two-by-four piece of wood and tried to hit Deputy Gary Hicks. Hicks fired his service pistol and struck the man.

Sheriff Aaron Acree said Friday that their investigation was separate from a Kentucky State Police investigation that is continuing.

click to download audioAcree said Hicks provided medical care to the man until EMS personnel arrived. The man was flown to a Nashville hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Hicks was eligible to return to work at the sheriff’s office on Tuesday.
