Stewart County Guidance Counselor Charged With Falsifying Academic Records

A Stewart County, Tennessee school guidance counselor was indicted this week by a grand jury on charges of improperly changing academic records.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations report 52-year old Gayla Grise was arrested Wednesday on two counts of falsifying of educational and academic records.

According to TBI, special agents began the investigation after a request by 23rd District Attorney Ray Crouch regarding an allegation that a Stewart County High School guidance counselor was altering student transcripts. In August 2020, agents said they discovered that Grise was responsible for making multiple changes within the school’s internal academic records database, which she didn’t have the authority to make in that manner.

Grise was booked at the Stewart County Jail on a $500 bond.
