Retiring Heritage Christian Headmaster Honored at Reception

Retiring Heritage Christian Academy Headmaster Linda Garris stands with the first family of HCA softball — the Faulkners — during her retirement reception Thursday. The softball field at HCA will be named in Garris’ honor.

 

Finishing the school building project, growing the student enrollment, and continuing to teach the word of God are what retiring Heritage Christian Academy headmaster Linda Garris takes away from her time at the private Christian school.

A reception to honor Garris was held at the school Thursday afternoon where former students, teachers, and board members stopped by to congratulate her on her retirement. She said one of the first students she had driven in from Tennessee to see her.

click to download audioGarris began her teaching career at HCA in 1997 and became Headmaster in 2004. She also coached the school’s softball team for 21 years.

During her time as a coach, she led the team to six state championships. The school announced Thursday the softball field will be named in her honor with a ceremony planned for later this month.

During her seventeen years as Headmaster, she guided the school through three accreditations and campus growth that began at Second Baptist and Hillcrest Baptist churches. She said Heritage Christian Academy is now the largest Christian school in western Kentucky
