Search Well Underway For New Trigg High Principal

The process to find a new principal for Trigg County High School continues, with a replacement possible by next month.

Superintendent Bill Thorpe told board members Thursday evening, seven candidates had applied for the position, but one was eliminated because they did not meet the criteria.

Thorpe said they are contacting references and will be meeting Monday to possibly narrow down the candidates even further and begin interviews the following week.

The district plans to name a new principal by Tuesday, May 18.

The search comes after Shannon Burcham retired from the position on March 31, after serving in numerous capacities across the district for 30 years.

Randy McCallon is the interim principal at Trigg County High School. The district first hired him to serve as interim Assistant Superintendent when Beth Sumner retired last year.

In other news, Thorpe shared with the board that zero students had signed up for the supplemental or “do-over” year that comes from Senate Bill 128, passed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thorpe added sign-up for the supplemental year ends May 1. The board will then either approve or deny all applicants before June 1.

Thorpe also told board members about the ‘Voice of the Wildcat’ committee he formed with some high school students.

The next Trigg County Public School Board meeting will be held Thursday evening, May 13, at 6:00, in the middle school media center.
