A fire at Square Deal Market on Newstead Road destroyed the building Thursday night.
Square Deal Fire Department Chief Keith Sholar says smoke was coming from the building when they arrived just after 7 pm.
No one was injured in the fire but the building is a total loss. The cause of the fire was unknown.
Sholar says it’s sad to see the business burn adding he and his son visited the store, sometimes multiple times a day.
Sholar said he remembers going into the store as a kid and buying sugar cookies for a penny apiece.
It is unknown at this time if the store will be rebuilt.
Square Deal firefighters were assisted by Gracey and Herndon fire departments.
