Cadiz Council Hears First Reading Of Zoning Ordinance Change

City Clerk Brian Ahart

Cadiz City Council members heard the first reading of an ordinance Tuesday evening that would add wording to possibly allow a doctor’s office to open in the historic district of downtown.

City Clerk Brian Ahart told the council the zoning text amendment would be for conditional uses for R-1 and R-2 properties.

The ordinance stated that written approval is still needed from the board of zoning adjustment.

The first reading of the ordinance change comes after months of back-and-forth between the city and the board of adjustments, a part of the Cadiz-Trigg County Planning Commission.

City Attorney Allen Wilson previously told the News Edge the board of adjustments recommended the city change the ordinance. Still, that change could not be made until the board had a public hearing on the matter. The public meeting was finally held on March 25, where the board recommended changing the zoning text.

The building in question at 116 Main Street formally housed the Cadiz Florist but could soon be the home of the Trigg County Medical Clinic, which is the medical practice of Dr. Vaishali Patel and Dr. Harshul Patel.

City council members will hear the second reading of the ordinance and possibly approve it during a special called meeting at City Hall, Wednesday afternoon at 4:30.
