A project is ongoing to ask the U.S. Navy to name a new destroyer in honor of Trigg County native and Civil War hero Admiral Silas Wright Terry.
Trigg County Historical Society President Bob Brame tells the News Edge club member Ricky Dale Calhoun brought up the idea.
Brame adds the letter-writing campaign is in full force.
He says it’s very easy to write a letter and send it to the appropriate people.
The project will take a lot of community support to possibly make it happen.
Brame expects the new class of destroyers to be ready in the next two or three years, which gives plenty of time for community members to send in their letters of support.
