Hopkinsville Man Charged After Fleeing From Hopkins County Law Enforcement

A Hopkinsville man reportedly struck a law enforcement vehicle during a pursuit in Madisonville Thursday morning.

The Madisonville-Hopkins County Narcotics Unit reports they attempted to stop 30-year-old Nigel Sanders in the parking lot of Pennyrile Park Apartments for expired registration and reckless driving.
Authorities say Sanders fled in the parking lot before stopping his vehicle and putting into reverse, then striking the law enforcement vehicle and nearly hitting the officer.
Sanders reportedly continued to flee before his vehicle became inoperable and then fled on foot throwing contraband during the pursuit.
Sanders allegedly resisted arrest and kept reaching for his waistband where a 9 mm gun was later located. After a search of his belongings, authorities say 370 grams of meth, 40 grams of cocaine, synthetic drugs, marijuana, ecstasy, and a large amount of money were found.
Sanders is charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, possession of ecstasy, and trafficking meth, cocaine, and synthetic drugs.
