Trigg Woman Charged in Children’s Deaths Ordered Back To Jail

A Trigg County woman facing two charges of manslaughter concerning the death of her two young children has been ordered to return to jail.

Keyona Bingham and public defender Mary Rohrer appeared virtually before Judge C.A. Woodall Wednesday afternoon. During the appearance, Bingham admitted to being under the influence of opiates at the time of the birth of her child in January, with Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins further explaining the situation.

The child was taken away from Bingham.

Rohrer said that a previous bench warrant was recalled February 19, after Bingham failed to show up for her previous court date on February 10.

She added the Bingham has been through a lot over the last several months, especially with the death of her two children.

Ovey-Wiggins added Bingham was clearly in violation of the conditions of her release by using opiates.

Judge Woodall revoked Bingham’s bond and ordered her to return to the Christian County Jail by Friday afternoon by 5:00.

Her next pretrial conference will be held Wednesday, May 12.

Bingham is charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter. The charges stem from an April 7, 2020 house fire on Jefferson Street that killed her children, three-year-old Kamari Harris, and seven-month-old Ky’nylee Harris.

Kentucky State Police said Bingham left her children alone in the home and went three blocks away to a family member’s home to get a Lortab tablet. When she returned, she told police the house was in flames.
