Christian County magistrates approved the first reading of an amendment to a current ordinance that would have Pembroke residents pay fire department dues on their county property tax bill.
The changes would occur to an ordinance that was last changed in 2012 and comes after a Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department decision. The first reading was approved unanimously and is expected to be read a second time at the next fiscal court meeting Tuesday morning, March 23.
Pembroke residents were previously exempt from other versions of the ordinance.
In other action, magistrates approved to purchase of 34 body cameras from AT&T for $36,715.92 a year for the sheriff’s department. Sheriff Tyler DeArmond said the cameras they had were outdated, and the server they have make it difficult to download and store footage from all of the new cameras.
DeArmond added each of the cameras would be under warranty from AT&T, and the annual contract will include everything they need to use the cameras correctly.
