Trigg Murder Suspect Facing Additional Charges In Lyon County

A man charged in connection to a Trigg County murder is facing additional charges after he was served an indictment warrant out of Lyon County last week.

Lyon County Sheriff Brent White says 43-year old Jonathan McCoy, of Princeton, was served the warrant on Tuesday, February 23 charging him with receiving stolen property under $10,000, second-degree arson, and first-degree persistent felony offender. The indictment was reportedly the result of an investigation by Sheriff Brent White from 2020 involving a stolen vehicle and arson incident near Kuttawa.

Sheriff White says McCoy is the same man charged by Kentucky State Police in the Trigg County murder of an elderly female from 2020.

In the Trigg County case, McCoy is charged with kidnapping, murder, second-degree arson, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse stemming from the September 16, 2020 murder of Thelma Ilene Barnett at her home on Will Jackson Road in Trigg County. State Police said McCoy tied Barnett’s hands behind her back, strangled her to death, and then set fire to her home with her body still inside.

McCoy remains lodged in the Christian County Jail under a $2 million bond.
