State Aims to Replace Lake Barkley Entrance Sign By Memorial Day

A spokesman with the Kentucky Department of Parks said a new sign for the entrance to Lake Barkley State Resort Park should be in place by June. Danielle Jones with the parks department said they are coordinating with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to replace the sign at the U.S. 68 entrance before Memorial Day.

The distinct brown wooden sign with gold lettering that is consistent in every state park was removed last year when the U.S. 68 four-lane project from Cadiz to Canton was completed. The intersection was widened which prompted the removal of the sign.

Some tourism officials have expressed concern over the smaller temporary signs that were hastily put up directing people to the state park. At one point last month, one of the signs was on the ground.

It wasn’t immediately known if the new sign will have the same brown and gold design.
