COVID Outbreak Reported at Western Kentucky Correctional Complex

The Kentucky Department of Corrections and the Pennyrile District Health Department are reporting an outbreak of the COVID-19 at the Western Kentucky Correctional Complex in Lyon County.

The health department reported 214 new cases of the coronavirus in Lyon County on Thursday and Friday, with all but six coming from the correctional facility that has a Fredonia address but is located in Lyon County.

According to the department of corrections, the facility has 232 active COVID cases involving inmates and 18 active cases among staff. The staff cases will be counted toward their county of residence. The inmate cases are assigned to Lyon County.

The department of corrections also reported seven active cases involving inmates at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville and four cases involving staff.
