Ice Storm Warning Issued For Wednesday And Thursday

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued an Ice Storm Warning for the region.

The warning will go into effect at 12:01 Wednesday morning and last through 6:00 Thursday evening.

Warning Coordination Meteorologist Rick Shanklin said wintry precipitation will begin Tuesday night lasting through Thursday afternoon. The area could see anywhere from two-tenths an inch up to half an inch of ice accumulation, with a quarter-inch of sleet possible Thursday.

Temperatures Wednesday could get above freezing across the Pennyrile region, improving conditions before getting worse late Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon.

Shanklin added a concern could be the wind as we head toward the weekend once the precipitation has fallen.

NWS officials said power outages and tree damage is possible due to the storm, and hazardous travel conditions are expected and could impact commutes during the warning period.

They add travel is strongly discouraged and that if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Officials add to prepare for possible power outages, as well.
