KACO Shares Legislative Priorities With PADD Board

The Pennyrile Area Development District board of directors heard the legislative priorities of the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) during their Monday afternoon meeting.

KACo Legislative Director Shellie Hampton said the top priority is getting the gasoline tax raised by ten-cents to help county road funds.

Hampton adds fiscal courts across the state are passing resolutions asking legislators to pass a higher gas tax.

Another priority is funding for broadband expansion across the Commonwealth.

She said a positive step for expanding broadband is in the Kentucky Broadband Initiative that was announced a few weeks ago by Governor Andy Beshear.

Hampton adds another piece of legislation they are watching closely: Senate Bill 120, concerning historical horse racing.

Other legislation KACo is asking to be addressed is rising jail costs and other state budget issues.
