Kentucky COVID Cases Continue Decline

Kentucky has seen four consecutive weeks of declining weekly COVID-19 case numbers and test positivity, with several of Monday’s totals the fewest since the weeks before the first Thanksgiving surge.

Governor Andy Beshear said Monday the trends are moving in the right direction.

The state reported 1,003 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, the fewest on a Monday since October.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state reached its lowest total since November 9 at 1,163. The 274 people in the ICU is the fewest since November 3.

The state’s testing positivity rate of 7.7-percent Monday is the lowest since November 10.

Trigg County’s incidence rate moved out of the red Sunday for only the second time since mid-November. Sunday’s rate was 23.4 cases per 100,000 population, equaling the mark on November 17. It was 22.4 on Monday.

Lyon County’s incidence rate of 10.4 cases per 100,000 population Sunday was its lowest since October 12, and Todd County was out of the red Monday for the sixth straight day – the longest streak for the county since November 9.

Beshear also announced the closure of the Team Kentucky Fund with $390,000 in donations to be divided between 19 organizations that fight homelessness and opioid addiction. The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville is one of those that will receive money from the fund. They are expected to receive around $20,000.
