An Eddyville man is among three new troopers who joined Kentucky State Police Post 1 in Mayfield after graduating from the Training Academy Friday.

According to KSP, the Post 1 graduates, Nicholas Engler, of Eddyville, Tyler Bloodworth, of Calvert City, and Marvin Morris, of Morehead, were among 45 new troopers part of the 100th KSP Training Academy. They earned their badges by completing twenty-four weeks of intense training while following ‘Health at Work’ guidelines, unlike any other cadet class in history has undergone. The training includes more than 1,000 hours of classroom and field study in subjects from constitutional, juvenile, and traffic laws to traffic and crowd control, bomb threats, hate crimes, and more.

KSP officials say Engler was among of seventeen cadets who earned an Associate’s Degrees in General Occupational and Technical Studies from the Bluegrass Community and Technical College during their 24-weeks at the training academy. They add these cadets benefited from new hiring guidelines established by the state legislature in 2017 that allows anyone who possesses a high school diploma or GED, and has three years of full-time work experience to apply for employment as a KSP Trooper and earn an associate’s degree during the training process.

In addition, Bloodworth of Marshall County received the ‘Ernie Bivens Award’. This honor is presented to a cadet in each class who, in the opinion of the KSP Academy and fellow cadets, shows distinction as a leader, strives for academic excellence, and has excelled in all phases of the academy’s physical and vocational training.
