Prep Baseball Names J.J. Thompson ‘Kentucky Player of the Year’

After helping to lead his team to the state tournament during his senior season, Hopkinsville High School’s J.J. Thompson has received statewide recognition for his performance on the field. Prep Baseball Report has named Thompson its 2024 ‘Kentucky Player of the Year.’

Thompson was a key player for the Tigers as they won 23 games, claimed the 2nd Region championship, and advanced to the Elite 8 of the state baseball tournament before falling 2-1 to Owensboro Catholic.

Thompson had a stellar year both on the mound and at the plate. He finished the year with a record of 7-2 with 2 saves and a 0.87 ERA. He struck out 143 batters while walking only 38.

At the plate, he led the Tigers with a .355 batting average. Thompson hit 5 home runs and drove in 24. He led the team in at-bats, hits, runs scored, doubles, triples, and home runs.

He has signed to play college baseball at Wright State University.
