KYTC District 1 Pre-Treating Roads To Prepare For Snow

In anticipation of our area’s first accumulating snow this winter, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews have been out pre-treating bridges, overpasses, and potential trouble spots along highways.

Spokesman Keith Todd says a crew sprayed brine along Interstate 24 in Lyon and Marshall County Friday afternoon. However, he added due to previously scheduled maintenance activities, not all counties in District 1 were able to pre-treat in anticipation of tonight’s snow and ice event. He says all crews have trucks fueled and ready to roll should the counties in western Kentucky get more snow than anticipated.

According to the National Weather Service Paducah Office, snow showers are expected to continue into the overnight hours. While temperatures will initially be above freezing, meteorologists say some very isolated heavier bursts of snow may allow some light accumulations and possibly some travel difficulties. They add the current forecast is for spotty snowfall amounts up to half an inch through tonight.

Motorists should use caution when traveling around the area overnight.
