Tourism Looking Into Options For Complete Transient Room Tax Collection

The Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism Commission is still exploring options for collecting all Transient Room Taxes due from properties across the county.

During their Tuesday afternoon meeting, Tourism Director Bill Stevens told board members they are beginning to work with Deatherage, Myers & Lackey.

Stevens added they are looking for a better way to collect information from people that use online booking agencies to rent out homes in the county.

The commission is looking to ensure they are collecting taxes from everyone that should be paying it. The group began looking into options in January 2020, but they are still looking for the right way to go about doing things and getting support from Trigg County Fiscal Court.

During the January 2020 meeting, Trigg County Attorney Randy Braboy told the commission the last ordinance concerning the tax was approved in 2010 before online bookings became very popular. He suggested one way to help fix the problem was to set up a permit process, and if people were found to be operating without a permit, they could face repercussions.
