Christian County’s Active COVID Cases Climb Back Over 800

In addition to a COVID-related death reported Friday, the Christian County Health Department also reported an increase of 63 cases, pushing the number of active cases in the county back over 800.

Spokeswoman Amanda Sweeney reported there are 802 active cases in the county with 476 of those in the Young-Adult to Middle Age group from 22 to 59-years old. The total active cases also include 189 between 60 to 84-years old; 118 cases 21 and under; and nineteen who are 85 or older.

The number of active cases had started to decline just before Christmas day with 871 reported on December 22, which dropped to 749 the following day and continued to decrease to 427 active cases as of December 27 before the number of cases started to increase again.

As of Friday, the county’s total cases were at 4,863 with 3,997 recoveries.

The health department also announced Friday a 63-year old African American male with underlying health conditions was the county’s 64th death related to the virus.
