Trigg Residents 70+ Beginning To Receive Vaccine

Trigg County Hospital began the 1B phase of distribution for the COVID-19 vaccine for those 70 or older Wednesday morning.

Hospital Administrator John Sumner told the News Edge things were running smoothly, but a little slow due to technology issues. He added they had around 500 vaccines to pass out Wednesday and Thursday and that all appointments for this week are full.

Sumner said they were glad to distribute the vaccine to their employees over the last two weeks.

Ken Oakley, a Trigg County resident, was one of the first people to receive the vaccine Wednesday morning. He told the News Edge it was vital for him to get it.

Sumner said he is unsure when they will receive their next shipment of the Moderna vaccine.

The Moderna vaccine is a two-part vaccine. After the first dose is given, patients must get the second dose 4 weeks later. Sumner added the vaccine is about 95-percent effective after the second dose.
