Christian County Adds 170 COVID Cases Since Thursday

The number of COVID-19 cases in Christian County continues to see a sharp increase with the start of the new year. Information from the health department said the county has added 170 cases since Thursday.

In the age demographic breakdown, there are 28 new cases among people 21 and under during that time. In the 22 to 59 age group, cases increased by 99. Cases involving people 60 and older increased by 43.

According to the state’s COVID-19 data reporting website, there are 29 active cases involving patients at Western State Hospital and 36 active cases involving staff.

There are 34 active cases involving patients and staff at the Western State Nursing facility.

The same report said there were two other long term care facilities — Morningside of Hopkinsville and Bradford Heights — reporting at least 10 or more active cases.

The Christian County Public School’s COVID data dashboard reported 16 active cases involving staff and 16 active cases with students. Schools in the public school system are scheduled to return to in-person classes Wednesday.

Christian County’s 640 active cases are the most since December 23.
