Trigg Bicentennial Historical Book Coming In 2021

Though the 2020 bicentennial celebration is wrapping up, a reflection of Trigg County’s history will continue into the new year.

Kim Fortner and Paul Fourshee spent nearly a year organizing the information and stories in preparation for the bicentennial year. Fortner says they scoured a wide variety of sources for information.

The main source, she notes, was old newspapers spanning the last 200 years.

Fortner adds they are assembling a book she hopes to release early in 2021.

Fortner says one of her favorite stories was a man who worked with President Thomas Jefferson and later settled in Trigg County.

She says she was surprised by the community’s interest in historical stories.

Fortner says they began gathering information for the bicentennial in 2019.

She notes that though many events were canceled, she’s happy the daily historical facts could continue.

Hearing the community’s memories and people come together around them was one of the best parts for Fortner.
