Dawson Springs Man Pleads Guilty To Running Meth Operation

A Dawson Springs man has entered a guilty plea in federal court to trafficking meth from his home located near the Christian County/Hopkins County line.

48-year-old Jimmy Leon Abbott entered the guilty plea this month in the Paducah division of federal court to distribution and possession with the intent to distribute meth and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Abbott was arrested in December 2018 following a month-long investigation by the Madisonville/Hopkins County Vice/Narcotics Unit. At the time, police said they made controlled purchases of over 1/4 pound of suspected crystal methamphetamine from Abbott at his home on Dawson Springs Road. He was then arrested by Kentucky State Police detectives and U.S. Marshals.

Police said Abbott, who was previously convicted of felonies in Christian and Livingston counties and of murder in Hopkins County, had three handguns in his home at the time of his arrest.

Federal prosecutors are recommending a prison term of 15 years to life with sentencing scheduled for April.
