Barkley Plantation Second Trigg Facility Fighting COVID Outbreak

Barkley Plantation Plantation Assisted Living Community is the second Trigg County long term care facility to deal with a recent outbreak of COVID-19.

Kentucky’s COVID-19 reporting website said Wednesday that 19 residents and five staff members were positive for the coronavirus. It’s the first time since the pandemic began that a resident of the facility has tested positive. One other staff member has previously recovered from the virus.

Barkley Plantation owner Clara Beth Hyde said the residents are being monitored by the staff and anyone with severe symptoms is being transferred to the hospital for further medical care.

She said continued testing of residents and staff that have previously tested negative for the virus will continue into next month. She added the facility has not had any visitors since before Thanksgiving on a recommendation from the state.

Hyde said the facility will undergo a thorough professional cleaning this week and they will continue to work with the local and district health department for guidance moving forward. She said several members of the community have reached out and offered assistance to the locally-owned facility and added its much appreciated.
