JCPenny to Close Murray Store In 2021

A national retail chain that filed for bankruptcy earlier this year will close another western Kentucky location.

The company reports the Murray location is among 15 nationwide that will close in the spring. This comes after the Hopkinsville location closed, along with over 150 other locations this year.

Forbes reported last week, JCPenney was formally acquired by Simon Property Group SPG and Brookfield Asset Management, two of the country’s largest mall operators, after a slow purchase process. The sale preserved approximately 60,000 JCPenney jobs, including at Governor’s Square Mall in Clarksville and Kentucky Oaks Mall in Paducah.
