Dropping Positivity Rate Should Help With Increasing ICU Numbers

 

While Kentucky’s number of new COVID-19 cases reached a new high Thursday, the positivity rate dropped for a seventh straight day.

The state reported 4,324 new cases with a positivity rate of 9.1-percent. In looking at the numbers, 24-percent of the new cases came from Fayette and Jefferson counties.

There were 1,756 people reported hospitalized with the virus and the ICU census hit a record high a 442.

Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack said many areas of the state are seeing ICU levels reach 85-percent capacity.

click to download audioThe state also reported 28 new deaths Thursday ranging in age from 59 to 99. There have been 238 deaths linked to COVID in Kentucky in December. It took 19 days in November to reach that number.
