Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest Of Illinois Man On Counterfeit Charges

A traffic stop on Interstate 24 led to the discovery of a large amount of counterfeit money Tuesday morning.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say they stopped 35-year-old Kirk Curtis around the 77-mile marker for a traffic violation. During the stop, it was discovered that Curtis didn’t have a valid driver’s license or insurance. After searching the vehicle, deputies say they found a large amount of counterfeit money, a firearm with the serial number scratched off, and several rounds of ammunition.

Curtis was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, and several traffic violations.
